Audi’s first consumer electric SUVs, the e-tron and e-tron Sportback, are now firmly established in the market. Modern, trendy look and outstanding performances … They have everything to seduce a whole new audience. When the new Q4 e-tron debuts next month, this new electric vehicle is expected to take the same route but with more features and cargo space than some of its combustion-powered competitors. Technically, the Q4 e-tron adopts Audi’s signature “Virtual Cockpit” with a 10.1-inch touchscreen as standard (the same as the one offered on the e-tron) or 11.6 inches in option. When the Q4 e-tron goes on sale, it will be the largest screen available on an Audi.
But two new features will be available on the Q4 e-tron for the first time: a “Hey, Audi” voice assistant and a heads-up display with an optional augmented reality system. This technology from Audi will project arrows, stop and turn markings and more onto the windshield. The whole system makes all the information easy to read at a glance and limits the time it takes for the driver to learn about his journey.
Another highlight of the interior of the new Q4 e-tron is that it is quite new. In fact, even though this new SUV is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, this new vehicle does not have the same cabin as the e-tron and other e-tron GT. When it comes to materials, customers will have to choose between traditional or artificial Nappa leather. The faux leather is joined by a high quality Dinamica trim that looks like suede but is made from 45% recycled material.
Another small modification, this Q4 e-tron has a new tactile steering wheel with voice control. No revolution so far, but we understand that Audi has made an effort so that the Q4 arrives on the market with some concrete novelties.
With this Q4, Audi hopes to offer an electric vehicle that is slightly more accessible than those already on the market. At 4.59 meters long, 1.86 meters wide, 1.61 meters high (and 2.76 meters wheelbase), the SUV of the Ingolstadt firm is almost as large as a thermal BMW X3. But thanks to the battery mounted between the two axles, the Q4 e-tron offers as much space behind the second row as the BMW. And with the second row lowered, the Q4 even has slightly more room. This could therefore put into perspective the clientele of thermal SUVs which mainly make up the city …
About the technical sheet, we do not yet know precisely what will be “under the hood” of this Q4 e-tron, but we imagine that it will have two electric motors, one at the front, the other at the rear for a cumulative power of 306 horsepower. In any case, this is what the concept that prefigured this Q4 in 2019 had available.
